Parental responsibility becomes parental adversary

When assessing the assistance provided to children, the assistance needs that children typically require (parental responsibility) have been discounted in advance. This has happened well before

With the change in the law, there will now be a uniform deduction for parents when calculating the extent of need for assistance. The way the discount is designed, it should also make it easier for young children to earn the right to help.

There will be no deduction from parents for assistance needs related to breathing, meals in the form of tube feedings, and medical support. There may be no parental deduction for basic needs from the month in which the child turns 12 years old, for other personal needs before the month in which the child turns 1 year old, or for other personal needs from the month in which the child turns 18 years old.
